Job: Derrick Hand

Responsible for the uppermost section of the drilling string as it is brought from or lowered into the wellbore or drill hole. As a  Derrickhand, you will oversee a bulk of the machinery on the rig. Further responsibilities include: conditioning of the drilling fluid, circulation of the machinery and will work with mud systems, monitor and mix weight correctly while reporting any changes.

Derrickhands spend approximately a quarter of their time in the rigs derrick and play the lead roll in stacking and guiding pipe as it is tripped in and out or reconnected into the hole. The position requires mixing chemicals, monitoring pump manifolds and excellent communication with team member working in the vicinity.
